SIH takes home the winning prize from the fi-compass Showcase Award 2024

28.06.2024

Bratislava / Brussels, June 28, 2024 - One of the highlights of the FI Campus 2024 international conference in Brussels was the announcement of the results of the fi-compass Showcase Awards 2024. Slovak Investment Holding (SIH) received an award for its affordable housing project “Dostupný Domov”. This is one of the most significant awards for Slovakia in the field of using EU funds.

Slovak Investment Holding (SIH) has had another award-winning year in the prestigious European competition regularly organised by fi-compass – the platform established by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank for financial instruments, i.e. repayable forms of financing.

fi-compass Showcase is a unique opportunity for fi-compass community members from across Europe to share and promote financial instrument success stories. The theme of the fi-compass Showcase 2024 was “Driving positive change: the impact of financial instruments”.

Our competition entry this year was the Dostupný Domov (Affordable Housing) project, which demonstrates how financial instruments can do more than just improve living conditions; they can also transform lives and foster social inclusion.

“All of us at SIH are delighted to receive this trophy. It shows that SIH has successfully used the European funds entrusted to us to support projects that benefit every part of our society through financial instruments. We are thankful to our partner Slovenská sporiteľňa – whom we see as a leader in social engagement – for their professional cooperation in this innovative project,” said Peter Fröhlich, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIH.

“We are an integral part of life and communities in every region of Slovakia and we therefore aim to be not just everyone’s best financial partner but a source of support for anyone who is in need. Decent housing is vital not just for people’s safety and well-being, but also for their physical and mental health. I am therefore proud of the affordable housing project, ‘Dostupný Domov’, which we implemented with our partners at SIH. The number of people that we helped to achieve a better future is what I see as the most important outcome, though I can’t help being pleased by this prestigious award. I would like to thank the entire team at Slovenská sporiteľňa and SIH for this project, which contributes to the prosperity of people in Slovakia,” said Peter Krutil, CEO of Slovenská sporiteľňa.

About Dostupný Domov

Home – one of the basic needs of every person. A place where people return daily, providing stability and a foundation for successful integration into society. However, not everyone has one. Certain groups of people are due to their life situations more vulnerable, but they also deserve a home. The motivation to provide them with one led Slovak Investment Holding (SIH) and Slovenská sporiteľňa to the creation of a unique project.

Dostupný Domov is an innovative project that aims to achieve a measurable positive social impact. The main goal of the company's activities is to provide housing, management, maintenance and renovation of housing stock, as well as support in the form of social services for target groups.

The project also focuses on vulnerable population groups, including seniors, victims of domestic violence and the homeless. It enables housing disadvantaged persons and socially less advantaged population groups that are unable to acquire housing under the commercial market conditions.

Dosupný Domov has been helping to solve the lack of affordable and social housing in Slovakia for 4 years, in which time it has acquired 350 rental apartments that are now homes for over 600 people all over the country.

A simple joint-stock company, Dostupný Domov has been established as an investment project under pari-passu conditions for all investors who seek to achieve economically sustainable and profitable operations in the long-term horizon. The Dosupný Domov project is an example of the fact that projects can be made profitably and sustainably even in the social field.
